MDS (Master of Dental Surgery)

MDS or Master of Dental Surgery is a 3 year PG dental course offered by approved dental colleges in India. The course completes to a post graduate degree in Dental Surgery, which is one of the most popular specializations in Medical Science pursued by BDS graduates. While pursuing this course, a student specializes in dental anatomy and diseases, applied surgery and anesthesia, plastic surgery and critical analysis and research etc. To pursue MDS, one should have completed BDS from a dental college recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI), followed by a year of compulsory Internship. After the completion of the course, concerned students can assume professional responsibility as a dentist in government or private hospitals, or may open up their own clinic and serve the society. Career as PG Dental Surgeon is one of the most lucrative options in India, in terms of pay and respect.

Eligibility

  • The candidate must be an Indian National /Person of India Origin /Overseas Citizen of India card holder possessing BDS degree from a Dental College recognized by the Government of India and has obtained provisional or permanent BDS registration and has completed one year (12 months) of compulsory rotatory internship in an approved /recognized Dental College to be eligible to appear in NEET.
  • A candidate, who after passing the final qualifying examination (BDS or the foreign dental degree recognized by GOI/DCI), is undergoing 12-month compulsory rotatory internship/practical training and is likely to complete the same by 31st March of the academic year can take up NEET , but he/she shall not be eligible for admission unless he/she has completed the compulsory rotatory internship and obtained provisional or permanent registration on or before 31st March of the academic year or the candidate produces a certificate from the head of Institution that he/she will be completing internship by 31st March of the academic year.
  • Foreign Nationals seeking admission for the post graduate course in Dental Institutes must procure temporary registration by Dental Council of India, for the entire duration of their course restricted to the dental college to which he/she is admitted.

NEET  MDS is the eligibility-cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examination to various post graduate courses in the country.
